Who, me?I'm a devilishly handsome chap who lives in Bangor Co Down and has Pointers. I can see the hands flying in the air, " Not another imposter?" Things like he doesn't even own a H.P.R. let alone a Brittany. Well that may all very well be true but in Chris I have a de facto HPR. A Danish lady gave me Chris and he has been trained to do the whole thing as he has to be able to do to compete in continental trials. This last season I have been hunting Chris in Co Tyrone, a wild rough spot for a Pointer. I know he was used for hunting partmigan in Scandanavia but I'll warrant that nothing there prepared him for life in Northern Ireland. At the start of the season he was at best ambivilent about brambles (Co Tyrone brambles are something akin to Camel Thorns. The stuff the Massai use to protect their cattle from lions.) but now it isn't a question of how to get him into the brambles, it's more like how to keep him out.
I make a point of joining forums for pointing dogs as some people have gone to great lengths to set up similar facilities for other breeds but they just don't seem to be used so I like to give a bit of support.
I really enjoy the season but I also really enjoy counting and of course I compete in Pointer & Setter Trials.
The main reason I join these forums..............There's always the danger I might learn something.

Welcome Des, you will no doubt see a few names you recognise and also a few you know by another - The Plum here is Windem Bang elsewhere for instance.
I hope you will be moved to post regularly, particularly your take on training and field experience with other breeds.

This is the aforementioned Chris. This was taken last summer, before his involvement with the Co tyrone brambles. There is no doubt that some of this seasons scars will follow him to his grave. This could be described as a characteristic pose as this is Chris last week, 29th Jan. '09 pointing snipe on Black Mountain.
You can see the others some time again.

This is Chris' son Oksby Basso. I bought Basso in Denmark and then Liz Sku gave me Chris. In my original Italian bitch, Echednei Hendi there was a lot of Danish blood and more to the point Oksby Fly so when I went looking to the continent again I plumped of Kennel Oksby so that my new blood wouldn't be a complete out cross. Handsome chap don't you think?

How come, if you are so handsome Des, there is no photo of you on here Are your dogs better looking

Absolutely, but in the vein of it is better to keep quiet and have people think you are stupid than to open you mouth and dispel all doubt I will refrain from posting a photograph. There are people looking for me based on my reputation alone so I will remain incognito. Who would want the like of Posh Spice hanging around your back door?

Whereas, if you looked like Sean Bean you could come and hang round my neck never mind the door

This is Judy, Exile on Main Street, the Grande Dame at Glencuan being now eight years old. She has won an open stake and has other open stake awards. She's a small dog but as Tom Dunne would say "Nobody's told her yet". She has guts by the bucket full and drive and desire to spare but then with Jump as her sire it is hardly surprising. Judy's mian fault is that she hates Roxy, with a passion. In all other respects she is a perfect dog.

This is Jalad, Ballincoher Barcley, another Jump pup. This is one of the best photographs that I have taken of any dog on point but it only tells half the story. The bottom one is more charastic of Jalad, flat out. All the time. His greatest asset, and his biggest failing is his nose. He goes well on the hill after grouse but on pheasant, where the is a lot of scent about the ground, he picks up all the scent trails and gets led astray. Problem is that I need to get him qualified to run on the mountain and it is pheasant stakes where I am more likely to get him a run. Ross is convinced that 2009 will be his year.
