33 Dogs with 34 entries from Higham Press Site, can't help with ring or time I'm afraid though as we are in Yorkshire for a Fun Dog weekend.
guy

how about in the schedule?
Ghilliegumdrop

The number of dogs entered is in this weeks paper but there is no mention in the schedule or anywhere else of ring or times.
alibindahouse73

Yeah with the in laws and family lol we stayed last year and it was good but very muddy lol so packin my wellys this year ha ha hopefully it may brighten up .
barbara

Ring 32 after GWP, they have an entry of 35/36 so about 1hr 15mins.  We probably won't be in the ring until 11.15

I've only just got round to reading the critiques on the WKC.

Congrats to those who all who attended but can someone please explain how "lovely harsh textured 'goaty' coats" fits with the breed standard which I'm sure I don't need to remind anyone suggests the coat should be 'dense but fairly fine'.

Apologies for my ignorance, on technical matters, but I'm keen to learn what I should be looking for in a good dog
guy

john - where did you find the crit?

This weeks Dog World Guy. Page 43 Exclamation

Boy am I glad you are back Wink  Wink
Patricia

John, and Guy...
The critique is in Dog World...
Harsh is correct as is goaty...The coat on top( you will see judges feel on top of shoulders etc...) should feel quite harsh, it is not silky. Nor wavy, not curly. Margaret is correct  and we used to see that in the critiques a lot more in previous years...
johnhod

But how can something be harsh textured and fairly fine,  it seems like a contradiction in terms to me.  Apologies for being stupid, but that's just the way I am.
guy

john - think of a coat that can turn a thorn and repel water, harsh on the outside and softer in the middle.  A bit like some people I know :-)
Patricia

John,
This is the French standard...
"HAIR: The coat is fine but not silky, lying flat on the body or with a hint of a wave. Never curly. Short on the head and the front of the limbs. The hind part of the latter has a heavier coat, furnished with abundant feathering, diminishing along their length down to the carpus (wrist) or the tarsus (hock), or even lower.

Guy is right, if you had a Spaniel coat, you would have a dog who would be retaining mud and all sorts. You must have noticed that due to its texture, the Brittany remains clean and drops all dirt very quickly. You can have a Springer caked in mud and a Brit, the latter will be able to lay on your carpet after a short while.
glynis

Is the "harsher" coat just over the shoulder area and going down the back? 'cos I'm still puzzled Embarassed
rgds
Ghilliegumdrop

Yes I must admit that I have noticed that Patricia.....one good roll and you have a very clean dog and bits of mud all over the carpet Laughing  Laughing

now the Cavaliers had to have a bath after being in the mud [but the carpets stayed clean Wink ]
guy

It is the amount of mud they can chew out of their paws that never ceases to amaze me.
Ghilliegumdrop

When we get back from our shoot I have learnt to dip their feet in a bucket of warm water.....then, of course, they tread wet every where Rolling Eyes
johnhod

I've noticed how quickly Moss becomes clean compared to Briar however I put this down to the density of the coat rather then the hair being harsh.  I certainly wouldn't describe it as goaty, as in my limited experience, goat hair is harsh and nor at all dense (except perhaps for angoras)
Patricia

Ok...another lesson...we'll go and see some little pigs trot and stroke some goats to compare our Brittany's attributes Very Happy  Laughing
The Brittany's hair is quite dense and hard, it is not silky, all over their body( maybe not underneath)
When I bath my dog's and because the judge may be feeling for that texture, I make sure I leave the top of the back unwashed. Wink
Lots of judges used to check but that seems to have gone by the by...
Maybe our administrator( now she is BACK) will confirm this? Wink
doganjo

Well I can confirm it, don't know if Admin can though.  I judge and I check for the goat type hair - AND I always mention it when I am taking the Seminar.  And I don't bath their backs either[u] Wink
Ghilliegumdrop

Perhaps we could have a goat there on the Saturday so people can have a quick feel Wink  Wink
johnhod

See, you can have a discussion without falling out over it.  Easy isn't it?
doganjo

There are five forum members online at the moment of which I believe all are in agreement a lot of the time.  Funny that isn't it?
Ghilliegumdrop

What are you saying.........do you want to start an arguement then Question  Question  Question  Twisted Evil
doganjo

glynis

ah, got it now Exclamation  (the coat that is), thanks Patricia

Ghilliegumdrop

I cannot fight you because I'm just a lightweight Wink  Wink
doganjo

Are you casting impressions Wink  Laughing
Lin Dyke

The "self cleaning" properties of the Brits coats as compared to the spaniel are much appreciated in this household too  Very Happy
