Working Gundog CertificateIn light of the information received from the KC today, will the club be amending the qualification for entry into the Special Working Class at forthcoming shows?
| Quote: | Dear Mr Hodkinson,
Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the Working Gundog Certificate being a qualification for Special Working Gundog Classes at Crufts.
I can confirm that the General Committee have agreed that the Working Gundog Certificate can be used as a qualification for dogs to enter the Special Working Classes at Crufts 2009.
Best regards

Hi John
I left you a post re WGC sort of on one of the general chat links, with a view to possibly making it more widely available , By linking it to area training and as a result area testing. This would hopefully cater for the growing number of members who actually want to work there dog in the field yet may not want to go the whole hog and shoot over it.( yet )

I'll have a search for it Dave. It should fit in with area training if we could arrange for the A panel judges but it's something that the working sub committee needs to be involved in.

Yes i agree but i think it would be a step in the right direction, making this available around the country And i would like to think that it would be supported by the commitee as a benefit to members and the breed.

It seems the club already supports it. While looking for your earlier post I've just read a post from Anne M in Tests, trial,s, etc posted in Feb last year that says | Quote: | The Kennel Club Working Gundog Certificate
The Brittany Club wishes to promote this Certificate and will be arranging training sessions aimed towards achieving this award. |

Has he got any little friends in Scotland? The Gundog Club charges £120 for a course including the test and they only do the Puppy and Junior ones in HPRs at the mo

That sounds expensive, Is it part of a structured training course over x number of weeks, or a one off ?

I can't remember for sure but I think it's one hour a week for 8 weeks.

It's an 8 week course (1 hour per week) and includes a test. Tests for HPRs seem fairly basic. there's another £12 something registration fee per dog as well. More details at http://www.thegundogclub.co.uk/Training/awardsscheme/HPRtests.htm

I suppose they have to pay the trainer and maybe also for the use of the grounds?
I've just been on a training weekend where the club that organised it charged £10 a day per person more than the trainer was getting with no extra charges that he knew of - they hadn't thought that because he was also a member he would find out. As a non club member I had to pay an extra £5 per day - don't mind that though.
I have emailed them (as is my wont) to tell them what I thought of the weekend (wonderful bar the weather) and their policy of taking extra off their members when they should be subsidising training.

Most of the trainers I've come across around here seem to charge between £10-£17 for an hour, so £120 (including registration and test) wouldn't seem tooooooo bad.
You can register and take the test without the course.

Yes , I have registered Allez but it is very obedience orientated so I'm not sure it is really suited to HPRs - they started off with retrievers and I think their ideas are maybe coloured towards that. Just teh walking to heel seems different/weighted
