Wow

Yesterday I did the draw for the BCGB Novice Field Trial (with John supervising but as he has an entry obviously it would be unethical for him to actually do the draw) at Bunwell this coming monday (9th) and we had 22 entries of which 19 were club members.

Because of the way draws are run under KC guidelines we are not able to give preferences to anyone but members (it is only in All-Aged Stakes that we can dictate breed preference) and I know we will have disappointed club members but we do have 6 brittanys running in the main draw.

Trying to fit 22 into 12 places was always going to impossible and I am also disappointed as I would have entered mine but he is not ready enough for me to wish to take the place of a dog fully ready (have to add that I would not have done the draw for the FT Sec if I had a runner myself Wink ) and I know one other club member is judging on the day so wasn't able to submit an entry.

However we will have 6 Brittanys running in a single FT and I for one hope all owners will be happy for me to take photos as I think it will be fab - we also have the chance of another Brit entering the card if we have withdrawals (perhaps we need to cross fingers for peeps deciding not to come Wink ).

Having friends in other HPR clubs though I think we should be very pleased to have gained such an entry and let us hope the weather, scenting conditions etc are all kind to us. Some trials are struggling to fill the card - that would have been easier!

6 Brittanys is fabulous...Bunwell has always been POPULAR, great shooting estate, well managed, great game keeper and basically nice people. I remember John Hill having found that ground in the first place and I can't recall shortage of entries. The word does get around!!!
But the number of Brittanys entering is a great thing for the breed I think.  Very Happy

good news isn't it.

I doubt reserve 5 will get a run however  Laughing

Sorry folks Ruby has had to withdraw as she has come into season so disapointed. We don't seem to be getting any luck so far 4th trial this year and drawn 11, 12,11,11 although we have managed to get through to second round every time so far. Fingers crissed for the next draw. Good luck everyone

Not sure how the reserve system works but if Club members have preference, how many of the four reserves are Club members?  Is there perhaps now a chance of the numbers being back up to six running?
Mugi

All bar reserves 8 - 10 are club members, reserves 1 - 3 are club members first dog, reserve 4 is co-owned diffferent handler then there is reserve 5 which is the second dog for a single handler Wink, same goes for reserves 6 & 7 . One withdrawal that I am aware of so will be in contact with John A and 1st reserve and see where we go from there.

The whole draw thing is so much harder when nearly all your entries are club members as it is inevitiable you upset people and try as you might you cannot stick to the rules and please all and make a mistake and you could so easily find yourself answering to the KC. It is a steep learning curve!!!

I am happy with my late reserve place.  Topaz won his CoM on a trial where he was drawn 7th reserve.
steve

how do you guys follow all the rules it seem also confusing Laughing
doganjo

There is a THING, Steve, called the Red Book!  KC Rules & Regs - but it does take a lot of practice to be able to understand them Wink  Laughing
steve

thanks annie another bit of information for my grey matter to absorb  Laughing
guy

you don't need the whole book - for field trials you only need the 'J' regs.  (this year they are blue) the KC revise them every year so you need to buy a new copy - but often it is only punctuation changes.

They are a few pounds.
steve

Thanks guy

I will see if I can find my last year's copy and if so will happily send it to you.

The bottom line is the dog has to work the ground and wind , find and hold game, hold until a flush on command, stay steady after that flush, steady to the fall, retrieve to tenderly to hand on command.  You get ten minutes to do this and if you have not made a mistake you get another go.  If after all that you have done sufficient you get a chance to 'go to water' - to prove the dog will enter and retrieve from water.

Easy peasy - not.   Today only one dog out of 12 went to water.  Most were eliminated for working outside their designated area.  The whole trial was conducted in a single field of sugar beet.
steve

all intresting stuff and very challenging

Which trial was that Guy, there's only the GSP one at Dalnaglar on the calendar
