YahhhhhI am soooooooooooooooooooooooooo lucky .
Today we have been given the firm promise and the key to the gate so we officially can use the shooting lodge and surrounding land for training .
So Mugi, Chase and I have access to acres of training ground with a variety of cover, water and it is a long long way to roads and we will be locked into the estate while there. We will be going up each monday, three of us with our dogs. One girl has 5 working cockers and is training to trial standard, the other has a springer and a bitsa spaniel (seems to be cocker/cavvi primarily but has a good nose) who are both rescue and then there is me.
We are going to do CONTROL, CONTROL, CONTROL with the youngsters, retrieves and directionals. Chase will do a lot of watching the others and learning to manage himself and he will do primarily dummy work.
Mugi will do some control stuff but I have more problem getting him away from me unless there is a bird. He needs to learn to cast off better and run further and more freely on his legs. Mugi will also get planted cold game in cover so he can learn to hunt out blinds by ensuring he has easy success to start. He also needs to work on delivery and despite using the clicker with him he has definitely learned fasted 'on the job'.
Chase will also get to learn to hunt to my direction and I am allowed to work him in the pheasant pens to help achieve this.
As I am so new to the shoot I have not asked yet but once we are proving our respect for the ground I will ask if I can take Chase up more frequently onto the open land where I will be able to run him free and work on his hunting range and response to me.
As the girls have only seen Mugi I think they will be somewhat surprised when/if they get to see Chase hunting so while working with the spaniels all I will be concentrating on is attention to me and retrieve work as I do not want to either spoil their training by encouraging their dogs to range too far or ruin my training by getting Chase to forget pointing!!!!
All the land pretty much in the pictures below will be available to us!!!!!

Good end to what seems to have been a great year for you and Mugi. Looks like a great piece of ground for training.

Well done Sue and Mugi. If you two keep working your charms on the keeper i can see a venue for a Brittany training day coming on.

Hi Guy, I am hoping that once I have 'proven' myself that I can invite John to help me train Chase so he can suss out the ground. The landowner/shooting rights owner is the person giving us permission to train and I know he allows Worcs Gundog to run their spaniel GWT there so maybe!!! I don't want to come across as pushy so will bide my time as Mugi is the first HPR they have had working regularly but who knows............

I know what you mean - I have access to a ground and a really good relationship with the keeper, I am now going to be very careful not to spoil that relationship.
