Probably in house this year, Sue, John A, possibly Fiona, plus one other possibility - not confirmed yet _________________ Annie

I leave that to John - we have to think of costs as well _________________ Annie

I just think from time to time we need some " fresh ideas", we can all become stale.
I think like Guy says, maybe a working test in a format of training day?
In a GWT, you have puppy, Novice, special beginner to open...So, different levels, short seen retrieves, a bit of obedience up to much higher levels.
How about Di Arrowsmith? I was told years ago she was good with puupies?? Only ideas, nothing else meant!
Let people bring their own lunches!
I think you should bring this up at Committee level. Unless someone mentions it to John very soon it will be too late for this year. At the moment we have 5 for the training day. If anyone else wants to come please let me know. _________________ Annie

We had originally planned to attend the training day but unfortunately will now only be there for the show on Sunday. _________________ Lin, owned by Rudi and Copper the Brittanys & Zac the Springer.

This sounds a good way forward, my only concern would be that it might lead to a bigger fracturing of the EB community.
1) Would dogs still be excepted if they do not have KC papers?
2) These events could become even more localised within the already established training region; so that people from the extreme parts of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland feeling even more excluded.
Thats only my thoughts anyway; i am not a member, but i hope i raised some valid points.
As you know i prefer to go with well established localised private trainers - this to me is cost effective, another point that you should think about
Dogs without KC papers - I assume you mean 'pedigree' papers can register with the KC Activity register and are then able to compete in certain events.
I don't think the club days should be seen as an alternative to a local trainer or mentor. They are aimed at training like with like. Very few local trainers have experience with HPRs. They are also a chance to share experience with similar minded people.
I am with you on the problem of centralised events disenfranchising distant members. But it is hard enough to align venues and trainers to the current scheme - this does not mean it would not be possible to vary the venue - just it might not be as straight forward as it might seem. The reverse argument also applies, to the organisers - to create experiences in different parts of the country from scratch requires a lot of time and effort - putting a great strain on a single individual with regards their time and travel - to inspect, arrange, attend etc. _________________ Guy, Ellie, Topaz, Catja and in memory Barley

At the moment, I think that the only things that 'unregistered' dogs can do when put onto the working register is obedience and agility. Possibly also working trials, it's a shame that the KC don't let unregistered gundogs do a form of gundog working test of some description. If a breed club runs a training event then I think that any dog of that breed should be allowed to enter even if it is not KC registered. After all the owners may then be encouraged to buy a dog that is registered next time they purchase a pup. _________________ Jan

I wasn't aware that an unregistered Brittany couldn't attend a training session. My understanding was that Club members have preference if we have surplus of entries, and many Club members have other breeds. Perhaps we need a Committee ruling. At the moment we have 5 dogs booked in for the Training Day in June - Allez, Belle, Bella, Tegen, and Smotyn. From a Treasurer's point of view that isn't enough to be viable. Any more coming? I can wait for the form and money so long as I have a commitment
