I don't mind doing a talk on tattooing and even showing hows it is done. One of the questions people ask is 'Does it hurt' the answer is yes of course there is going to be a little pain the clamp has little pins in it which penetrates the ear to people who have a traditional docked breed I see there is no argument for pain and yes I have 2 docked Jack Russell's and 2 docked Rotties.
Pups are like us some will squeal when having their vaccs or chip others not and how many of you have stood on your pup and mad it squeal or shut a paw in a door it is soon forgot after a kiss and a cuddle the difference is a tattoo is done once and its there for life.
Also available now are collars which say Ear Tattooed and the HO tel No and metal signs that tell people that the dogs on your premises are tattooed for security _________________ Be safe not sorry

Thank you Guy for the welcome
First the inner right ear is shaved, this is so the long hairs do not get in the way of the clamp and you are starting with a smooth clean surface, then it is cleaned and wiped over with an antiseptic.Next the clamp is loaded with the appropriate numbers for your dog as there are litter numbers and adult numbers the ear is then put in the clamp flat and the clamp squeezed to put the holes into the ear, next the dye (which is vegetable based) is rubbed into the tiny holes thoroughly and left to dry the excess dye then wares off leaving the dye in the holes revealing the number.
Please explain about dogs tattooed elsewhere, if you have a dog that is tattooed you should have the relevant paperwork with that dog. _________________ Be safe not sorry
I have a dog tatooed in Germany, i emailed the tattoo register earlier this year but never received a reply. I don't have any tattoo papers as the dog is microchipped. Tattoo register is held by the breed club in Germany, maybe a central register as well not sure. _________________ Guy, Ellie, Topaz, Catja and in memory Barley

Pm me with his number and I will see what I can do for you
Also forgot to say if you have a litter tattooed your details as a breeder always stay on the database and if one of your pups ever lands in a rescue home you will be notified, or if you suspect one of your pups is in rescue you can prove you are the breeder and get it out of there.
I was notified when a member of the public found a lost toller wandering around that I had bred. The owner was most surprised when I called him to ask had he been reunited with his dog.He lived over 100 miles from me and was very surprised that I knew what had happened. Tattooed dogs get a tag to attache to the collar. _________________ Be safe not sorry
I have imported a few dogs from France and all tattoos are done there obviously.
All I do is ring the Tattoo register and transfered the name on a pink form with my name and address. Though it is not an English tattoo, it is on their record should the dog be lost.
And, like Christine,a pup my friend bred was found wandering. The breeder knew before the owner!( Mind you the owner had not transfred into their name!)
