Carys a black and white Brittany was my choice for most improved in the HPR class at Hampshire Gundog Society training this year.
Carys is only eight months old but consistently responded well to all the evenings. Particularly memorable was her noticeable change from 'looking' to 'hunting.
Not a strong retriever yet, she does love her duck wing! and when encouraged will hold her area well. Disdain for dead feathered things changed to a 'you can't hide that from me' attitude, caged game was homed in on like a fly!. As yet not a stylish pointer, she did hold steady and by the end of the evening was so rigid it was if her paws were nailed to the floor.
A most improved from the 'spaniel' , 'retriever' and 'puppy' groups is also chosen and the most improved is chosen from these . Not sure of the timescale for that decision - or indeed who makes it or how it is made.
Hampshire Gundog Society has been running training evenings alternate weeks since the spring time at a number of venues around the county.
