Hi All,
Annie has deveopled an annoying trait over the last couple of hunts of what I think is over-excitement. She whimpers and makes little barks, etc. It's like she knows she is not supposed to but can't help it. This happens when we either see wildlife (it was real bad yesterday as there was a lot of kangaroo's and wallabies around) or if she is on or near a scent. Should I be reprimanding her or consoling her?
She was als a bit unsettled yesterday and spent most of the day on a lead attached to my belt, which I think may have been the result of so much roo scent around.
Cheers,
Waldo

Hi

I would nip it in the bud , the last thing you need is a dog barking at game etc. You can also cause it yourself by get the dog frustrated it thinks it should be hunting instead its watching. I would break to roo's etc as you would sheep, that should stop that side of it, but you need to be quick to show your displeasure at any noise
Some strains are more likely to do it, and if left unchecked it becomes the norm.  She sounds a bit hyper and maybe needs training on live stuff in a controlled situation so you can stop the noise but praise the hunting, also dogs like this can be set off with to much vocal encouragement from you so be mindful of that .
