I was not sure where to post this and it seems this is the best place...
It was announced on the French Forum that Mieur Leon Lelouet, our patron, passed away..
Leon Lelouet was President of the CEB for a considerable amount of years and worked hard for the breed.
He came over to the Uk a couple of times to judge and assessed the dogs French fashion, withholding if not of correct size etc. He was also a field trial judge.
I knew him personnaly having stayed with him and his wife when we took a Westie over for his friend.
He will be very much missed by the French Club.

Yes, he will be much missed over there.  He was a larger than life figure.

Sorry to hear this, Patricia.   He will be a loss to the breed, and will be sadly missed.

Liz, many of the older members knew him as he came over to the UK.
My dealings with him did not go the way I anticipated...

The first time I ever met him was when Sandy showed Brett at National Gundog I think (is that right Patricia?).  Sandy and Graham Bryant were told to stand at one side of the ring without the dogs even being gone over.  They weren't even moved. We had no idea why until he handed out prizes to the other two dogs in the class and the steward called in the next class, without even coming over to say what was going on.  Sandy and Graham were left standing there like a couple of lemons.  We were all so mad at the rudeness at the time but had a great laugh about the French and their funny ways afterwards (Sorry, Patricia - no offence?)

None taken...The French can be arrogant, that is their charm of course too Very Happy  Confused
Apart from checking of the teeth( in detail for the PMs)the testicules, and measuring, checking depht of chest, they don't go " over" like they do in the UK.
I remember the Club show( who does not Confused ) when Leon was not feeling well and wanted to get his flight back to Paris without seeing the challenge! Remember frantically Alan & Kathy trying to get him a lift to Birmingham. Bill Hatton took him I think...
All he needed to see the expression was a tissue thrown on the floor.
Like R Killick says in Our Dogs" I love the French, they have revolution in their blood!) following the demand of the rejudging in Dogues De Bordeaux champion class.
I had asked Leon to find 2 pups to bring in...and I would find him a Westie.
Found the pups but this ended pear shape Crying or Very sad
Leon Lelouet knew dogs and Bretons, he was very popular in the breed and was passionate.

He hadn't even done that!  Maybe he wasn't feeling well that day either.  Yes, he was passionate, We were told afterwards that Brett and Graham's dog 'were not Epagneul Bretons'  No reason, just a statement.
