I have highlighted one area, but the comments on Arab horses is also interesting I think as it might give some insight into the thinking behind the development of the Brittany.

Yes, the reason I have always been given was that the original Epagneul Breton - Les Fougeres were born tail-less, and it was so prized that those not born that way were docked to match.
