Hi All,
Just a quick question re: pointing. My girl Annie tends to point quite a lot, sparrows, pigeons, grass hoppers and I've even seen her point bees. She tends to hold a point for what seems a fair while (to me at least). I was starting to wonder as the hunting season (Aus. winter) gets closer and she gains some more field experience is she likely to get the hint and only start to target the game species we are after with her undoubted pointing skills? Or will she continue to point at everything that interests her?
Cheers,
Waldo

Hi Waldo, grasshoppers, snails, crickets etc will diminish considerably for her and once she realises what game birds are, her natural prey urgency will kick in and those points will get more intense...best of luck with her...when does your bird season start...we have to wait until the first weekend in May  Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad

So long as you are not praising for the false points.  Make the dog produce the goods - if nothing is there then let your body language tell you are not pleased, if there is make a fuss.

Thanks for the replies, I wasn't real sure how to treat the false points.

Victoria, the game bird season (well duck season) usually starts in March. A season was not declared in 2008 and is yet to be declared in 2009, with the draught continuing and temps. tipped for 40 C plus the next 4 days the chance of season being declared is looking pretty slim. Bird hunting opportunites are pretty few and far between so we will focus on other game to hone her pointing and huntng skills.

Cheers,
Waldo
